The Downbeats play hard bop jazz with down- home grease and inspiration from the ethereal mothership! Tunes by Thelonius Monk, Bill Barrett Charlie Parker, Bobby Bradford, Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins and many others including originals are played in the spirit of 52nd Street, Central Avenue, the NY Loft scene and L.A. punk rock in the early days of the Germs, Top Jimmy, The Rhythm Pigs and The Minutemen. Vitality, intensity, exploration and the groove, friends are the drivers - the mind and the body connected and deep fried with sauce. Members include or have included Marc Doten, Dan Potruch, Eric Holden, Corey Flanigan, Ted Kamp, Adam Levy and many others. The basic lineup includes saxes, flute, guitars, upright bass and drums but is often augmented by great sit-in artists. |
